Measuring cultural food security: A Scale Development Project
Project Title
Measuring cultural food insecurity: A scale development for culturally responsive food security indicators
Project overview
This project aims to develop and pilot Cultural Food Security Index (CFSI) tailored to experiences of immigrants in Canada. The project will employ a mixed methods approach - qualitative, community-based participatory research approach, engaging newcomer immigrants through in-depth interviews to explore their definition of cultural food insecurity and identify key indicators for the CFSI through quantitative survey approaches to scale development and testing.
With a team of experts in scale development (Dr. Boateng, Dr. Owuor, and Dr. Onyango), we will produce a validated measurement tool incorporating cultural preferences, and community-specific factors alongside conventional food security indicators that will be scaled to other regions.
